World Games Impact

Dear Church Family and Friends,

It’s exciting to have the World Games taking place in and around Birmingham this month.  I’m looking forward to going to a few sporting events and enjoying having folks from around the world here in town.

One of the venues is right next door to the church in our neighborhood’s beautiful Avondale Park.  This venue will be for archery.  Due to road closures around the park, people trying to get to our church will be impacted.  Although the games do not begin until next Thursday, the road closures are scheduled to begin tomorrow – Saturday, July 2 – and will continue through the evening of Sunday, July 17.  Click here to view information on the closures as well as a map.  Please plan your route accordingly and give yourself ample time to come to worship on Sunday mornings over the next few weeks.  At this time, we still plan to worship together on Sunday, July 3, 10, and 17 at 10:00am.

In addition, we’ve rented our parking lot to The World Games during the times that archery is taking place, which is most of the days during The World Games.  On Sundays, however, we negotiated for them not to use our parking lot until noon.  This way, our folks who are attending worship will have access to park in our lot.

A fun and interesting alternative to consider in getting to the church is the new bus line.  The city has set up several transit lines, one of which comes right by the church.  Click here for more information on the different routes.

While I do hope this won’t deter you from joining us in-person for worship, remember that you can always worship with us live on our Facebook page Sunday mornings at 10am.

Although there may be minor obstacles to overcome, this month is going to be exciting around the church and the Magic City.  See you Sunday!!

Blessings,

Rev. Malinda Weaver
