Feeding Families

We've partnered with the Avondale Elementary School PTA to provide non-perishable groceries to families from the school who need extra support.  This began as a small dream at the beginning of the pandemic back in March. The goal was to provide food support for families who rely on the free breakfasts and lunches at the school.  We thought we’d receive enough donations to last a few weeks after the school closed, but people’s generosity coupled with our mobile food pantry have kept this ministry alive and thriving.  Today, we need the community's financial help to keep this ministry going. We also need volunteers to help us deliver the groceries each Wednesday from 11:00am-1:00pm to these families’ doorstep.

To volunteer, click here to sign up to be a delivery driver for one Wednesday or several.

If you'd like to donate, scroll down to "Make a Contribution".  Click "I would like to designate this donation to a specific fund" then click "feeding families."  Your donations will be tax-deductible.  Any donation is very much appreciated as we seek to love our neighbors.

Ways to Give to Avondale UMC

No matter how you give, whether by cash or check, or by electronic means, giving is an act of worship. Because many people today do not carry cash or check with them, we provide several convenient electronic means to make your contributions to the mission of God through Avondale United Methodist Church.

  • Automatic Bank Draft ... Set up a monthly recurring gift with the church office or use services provided by your bank for automated giving.  You can use our EFT application below to set up your automatic bank draft.  Email the completed form to our church bookkeeper, Anne Scogin (ascogin@avonumc.net).
  • Online Giving ... Use the “Online Giving” form below to set up a one-time or recurring payment from your bank account, credit card, or debit card.
  • Cash or Check ... Place your cash or check in the offering plate or mail to the church office. For a record of your cash giving, fill out giving envelopes located in the sanctuary pews.  Checks may go directly into the plate.  To mail to the church office, our address is 500-40th Street South, Birmingham, AL 35222.
  • Alternative Gifts ... Avondale UMC also accepts gifts of stocks, real estate, life insurance, and other assets. Please email church bookkeeper Anne Scogin for more information. (ascogin@avonumc.net)

Please note: all online contributions to Avondale United Methodist Church are processed through PayPal, a trusted leader in online payments services. Interested in EFT?

EFT, also known as "bank draft," is another convenient way to make your contributions. With EFT you authorize us to draft your checking or savings account on a periodic basis. EFT transactions cost us less to process than credit or debit card transactions, and using EFT guarantees that the church receives your gifts on a regular basis, even if you forget one week. This allows you to reinforce your commitment to give your tithes and offerings to God first, before anything else.
