The Rhythm Is Gonna Get You

Dear Church Family and Friends,

I’m excited to welcome YouthServe back to our church campus for their first overnight camp since 2019.  This is a great organization – led by our church member Jennifer Hatchett – that brings teenagers together from all walks of life to teach them about community engagement and development.  These young folks are empowered to become better citizens and future leaders who will change our world for the better.  Please be in prayer for the whole YouthServe team and teens this week and again for their second week of summer camp July 18-22.

Also … YOU’RE INVITED to join YouthServe this Wednesday (that’s tomorrow) for a Drum Circle on our Lawn and Ice Cream.  See details below along with some other ministry opportunities.  It’s a rockin’ evening that you won’t want to miss.

Blessings,

Rev. Malinda Weaver

Drum Circle & Ice Cream Party

Let the rhythm move you this Wednesday (June 22) to join our friends from YouthServe for a drum circle on our lawn.  Then stick around for ice cream from Big Spoon Creamery.  The beat drops at 6:00pm with a professional percussionist leading the festivities.  All drums and rhythm instruments will be provided.  No musical experience necessary to participate.  All are welcome.

 Avondale AA

If you or someone you know needs support through Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), our church hosts meetings every week in the Fellowship Hall on Mondays at 7:00pm and Saturdays at 5:00pm.  All are welcome to attend either of these meetings, but the Saturday meeting is specifically designed for the LGBTQIA+ community.  For more information, email Jill Wheeler (wheelerjill239@gmail.com).

Yard Work Ministry

Many of our neighbors are unable to maintain their yards during the summer months because of age, disability, or other health challenges.  Our mission arm, Avondale Samaritan Place, is working to identify those households in our service area – zip codes 35212 and 35222 – and connect them with our Yard Work Ministry.  If you know someone who needs help, email Mike Higginbotham (mike@avonumc.net).  You can also email Mike if you’re interested in volunteering to help do the yard work (mowing, minor pruning, etc.).  Work days are typically Tuesdays and Thursdays in June, July, and August weather permitting.
