Worship, Pray, Serve — Holy Week & Easter at Avondale UMC

Dear friends,
The season of Lent is drawing to a close, and I can’t wait to celebrate Easter with all of you … but as you all know, we can’t celebrate Easter without first going to the cross.  We have some meaningful opportunities next week designed for you to meditate and reflect on what God did in Jesus Christ because of God’s great love for each and every one of us.  I’m often amazed at how so many of us never grow calloused or weary of journeying through Lent to Easter.  Although some years are more difficult than others, it’s still a humbling and tender season each and every year.We also have some activities for celebration and fellowship during this time as well as a wonderful mission activity that’s perfect for bringing people of all ages together in service.  The next three weeks offer ample opportunities for you to worship, pray, and serve … and I’m here for all of it!  I hope you will be, too!Blessings,

Rev. Malinda Weaver
Palm Sunday Worship
this Sunday, April 10 | 10:00am

This Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week as we recall Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.  We will have our traditional palm parade with folks young and old waving their palm branches.  If you have children and youth, please have them meet Mrs. Randi in the foyer at 9:45am to get their palms and receive instructions for the processional.

Iris Bulbs from the Garden
this Sunday, April 10 | before & after Worship

We have a lot of bulbs left over from our Garden Renovation last fall, and we want church family and friends to enjoy them.  They’ll be available this Sunday morning before and after worship for pick-up.  Suggested donation is $10 per pot.

Egg-Cetera
this Sunday, April 10 | 12:30pm-2:30pm | ASP Gym & Front Lawn

Hop on back to church after worship for some free family fun!  There will be lots of activities for people of all ages … pictures with the Easter bunny, Easter eggs hunts scheduled by age groups, crafts, Easter treats, and more.  Invite your friends and neighbors to come, too!

Stations of the Cross & Prayer Labyrinth
April 14 & 15

On Maundy Thursday (April 14) and Good Friday (April 15), we will have a Prayer Labyrinth and Stations of the Cross set up in the ASP Gym from 11:00am-1:00pm & 4:00pm-6:00pm.  There will be printed materials available to assist you in your journey.  Come spend time in prayer and meditation.

Good Friday Worship
April 15 | 6:00pm

The mood will be set with a ballet choreographed by our own Therese Laager titled “The Table.” This will be followed with the reading of scripture and the extinguishing of candles as we remember Christ’s sacrifice for us all.

Easter Sunday
April 17

Celebrate Easter with your church family and friends with breakfast, fellowship, and worship.  We’ll have individually packaged breakfast (homemade breakfast casserole, yogurt, and fruit) beginning at 8:30am in the Fellowship Hall along with fun activities on the lawn (sidewalk chalk, bubbles, etc.).  Bring flowers from your lawn or the grocery store (no judgment here!) to decorate the Easter cross on the lawn.  We hope you’ll come enjoy time together with family and friends before worship begins in the Sanctuary at 10:00am.

Did we mention that worship on Easter will be back in the Sanctuary, and we’ll have a guest organist pulling out all the stops?!?  It’s a Sunday you won’t want to miss!
