Susan Hunt Sims grew up in Birmingham in the North Alabama Conference. She graduated from Auburn with a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering and worked for several years in that field in Birmingham. After hearing a call into full-time Christian ministry, she moved to Oklahoma for almost two years to serve as a US-2 Missionary with The United Methodist Church (UMC). That experience led to her serving as the Outreach Coordinator for Church of the Servant UM in Oklahoma City for an additional seven years. She moved to Montgomery in 2009 and served as the Director of Mission for the Alabama-West Florida Conference of The UMC until 2020. She then served as Executive Director for Renascence, Inc., in Montgomery until July 2022, when she and her husband moved home to Birmingham to be closer to family. Susan was commissioned as a UMC Deaconess in March 2004.
