A Message from our Parents’ Day Out Board

Sadly, our PDO has closed for the 2020-2021 school year.  The PDO Board did not reach this decision easily because we fully recognize the impact it will have on our families and our community.  We explored multiple scenarios and consulted subject matter experts and other day care facilities.   Ultimately, after much consideration and prayer, we came to the conclusion that, in light of all the unknowns and the continued rising number of COVID-19 cases in Jefferson County in August 2020, it would be imprudent to open the school this year.  The health and safety of the children, the teachers, and so many others is our utmost concern.  We plan to use the coming month to explore every option possible to open the school in the fall of 2021.  We hope all involved understand our decision and give us consideration again next August.  We will miss teaching the children greatly.  It is always such a joy to watch them grow and learn.

About PDO

The Parents' Day Out ministry (PDO) at Avondale United Methodist Church is a program for children 6-weeks through 4K.  During a typical school year, PDO is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm (Tuesdays & Thursdays only during the summer). During their time with us our trained staff will provide your child with a safe, nurturing learning environment in which your child can thrive.

The PDO Philosophy

PDO offers more than childcare; it is a dynamic learning environment in which children participate in age-appropriate activities and lessons designed to foster cognitive, physical, spiritual, and social development. Our program is one of the most respected part-time preschool programs in the area. Our graduates enter kindergarten with a solid foundation in the language, math, and social skills they will need to succeed and the moral foundation that will help them become who God dreams they can be.
