At Avondale UMC, we envision being a place where people can connect with God, with each other, and with our neighbors. It’s important to carve out time to grow and serve. We encourage you to make it a priority to be a part of at least one group for growth and at least one opportunity for service. Think of it as inhaling and exhaling God’s love—two vital aspects of your life of faith. New opportunities are always emerging, so you can adapt to fit your changing schedule.
Groups for Learning and Growth
About Small Groups
Small groups are a core part of our Methodist heritage. Early Methodists, following in the biblical example of the first disciples, met together in groups of 10-12 to encourage one another, study God’s word, pray, and grow in faith. Small groups provide one of the best contexts within which our growth as disciples can occur. At Avondale UMC our approach to spiritual growth and discipleship is patterned after this ancient practice.
Our small groups afford participants opportunities to deepen connections with God, with each other, and with our neighbors so that we all may grow into maturity as disciples of Jesus. Some groups focus on understanding Scripture, others focus on living the Christian life, and still others focus on providing support and care for particular needs and challenges.
