Music Ministry
Join us for practice on Wednesdays, 7:30 pm in the choir room (2nd floor of the Education building.) Everyone is invited.
Avondale United Methodist Church's all-volunteer choir leads the music at our Sunday Morning Worship services each week, sharing many types of music through anthems, responses, and hymns. The choir is directed by Frances Ferrell.
Frances Manly Ferrell
has spent her life involved in music. She received her BS degree in Music Education from the University of Alabama and Master's degree from Samford University. Frances retired from Mountain Brook High School after teaching there for 28 years. At MBHS she served as Choral Director and Chairman of the Fine Arts Department.
A member of AUMC all her life, Frances began singing in the Sanctuary Choir at age 13. She became a part of the church music staff in 1959, serving as director of Children's and Youth Choirs and later becoming Sanctuary Choir Director. She also serves as substitute organist and Director of Music Ministries. The church and its music program are a vital part of her life.

Margaret Williams
This month we welcome Margaret Williams back to our church as organist. Margaret first served Avondale as organist in the early 1980’s. She and her 2 year old son, Michael, were a part of our church family during the pastorate of Rev. Hoyt Logan.
Margaret returned to Avondale in 1990 with husband Audis, 2 year old daughter, Katie, and 11 year old son, Michael. Margaret served the church as organist and she and Audis were the Children’s choir directors leading our children in special musical presentations including Down By the Creek Bank. Margaret and Audis left Avondale in 1995 for other opportunities.
In 2006, Margaret suffered the loss of her husband, Audis, and is now returning to us once again as organist (3rd time’s a charm)! Margaret’s son Michael, now 32, is married and living in Nashville with his wife, Audrey. He is a Surgery Tech at Vanderbilt Hospital. Daughter Katie, now 23, is married and lives here in Birmingham, with husband, Calvin. She is a nanny and a college student.
Margaret works at Baptist Health System in the Medical Education Department as a Residency Program Coordinator.
